Why bees are important

I've been trying for a while to get a beehive right here in our kitchen garden in Hong Kong.  Michael Leung is head of "Hong Kong Honey", which sells hives; he's been out here to check us out, has promised to send a hive, but hasn't done so despite repeated follow ups.  Meantime, there's this disturbing and scary business of CCD -- colony collapse disorder, happening worldwide.
I came across this video courtesy of a subscription to phdcomics....  This is the first time I've seen CCD sourced specifically to a mite.

This is at Mt Majura, "a few weeks ago", says Anne. About the plaits.. she says, in email  "... note the plaits!! Don't worry, I don't wear them where I will actually be seen."
I said: "Don't worry about plaits, they also look good.  Nina Wang, HK's richest woman wore plaits till her death.... (a few years ago now...)."
She says:  "Given your imprimatur, I wore them out last night!! (plaits)".
